an important message from the hhna president

Cliff and I surveyed the storm damage to Hampton Hills and we can say with some confidence that it is extensive. We were astonished. It looks more like a tornado ripped through the neighborhood than a snow storm. Some of you have experienced damage to your homes as a result of falling branches. Some of you have had fences and carports destroyed. Many of you have had beautiful, mature trees decimated. Taking in the whole sweep of damage was heart-wrenching. I know our neighborhood is but one area of Oak Cliff to have experienced such widespread destruction. Thankfully, we’ve had no reports of injury or loss of life. We are also grateful that, so far, no one has been the victim of a crime during this period of time.

The City of Dallas Emergency Operations Center, already activated this weekend for the NBA All-Star Event, is also monitoring the efforts of several City departments and crews responding to the winter storm. The City’s Streets Service crews are responding to 311 calls and reports of blocked thoroughfares and rights-of-way. In addition to Street Services, the City has mobilized crews from Trinity Watershed Management, Code Compliance and other departments.

The City is asking us to make reports of downed trees by calling the 311 system or by going online at http://www.dallascityhall.com/services/services.html

Please determine whether the limbs are in a public right-of-way (any street or commonly used alley) or if the debris is on private property. The City will respond to calls requiring clearing of the rights-of-way (we saw at least two alleys and one street still partially blocked).

Any storm debris from residential or private property may be placed at the curb for collection by the Sanitation crews. Please notify 311 of the need for a debris collection. Code Compliance officers will not issue citations for out-of-cycle brush materials resulting from the storm. However, you must contact 311 before placing such materials at the curb.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

Friends, we will re-plant, restore and rebuild our beloved Hampton Hills. Let’s keep working together to make this the best neighborhood in Oak Cliff.
