June Monthly News

New Neighborhood Watch

A Big thanks to Jon and Cliff Garinn, new residents to the 1500 block of Hollywood Avenue, who have volunteered to head up a Neighborhood Watch program.

They will both be attending the Neighborhood Watch training seminar provided by the Dallas Police Department in July and will receive tool kits to help get the program successfully off the ground. We will also be setting up a special Neighborhood Watch bulletin board and email address to help communicate issues and concerns. Remember though, a Neighborhood Watch is considered a crime prevention program. If you are a victim of a crime or a witness to one, always call the police first and then notify your Neighborhood Watch team second.

If you would like to get involved, please join us at the June Meeting.

National Night Out

National Night OutThis year’s National Association of Town Watches - National Night Out is Tuesday, August 7th. Hampton Hills is an official participant this year and we will be having our own Night Out event in place of our normal August Meeting.

The plan thus far is to have a ‘progressive’ type format with stations set up throughout the neighborhood serving BBQ, snacks, ice cream and plenty of cold drinks (it is August after all). We will also have information available on how to improve the safety and security of the neighborhood. But most importantly, the point of the event is to get out of the house and meet your neighbors – the best way to ensure the safety of the neighborhood after all is when neighbors look out for neighbors. So even if you haven’t been to an HHNA function in a long time, think of this as an ideal opportunity to get out and meet someone new (plus you won’t have to cook).

We are looking for some National Night Out ‘Sponsors’ in addition to NNO ‘Hosts’. Sponsors will help to defray the cost of food and other items necessary for the event. Basic sponsorship is $20 and a Gold Sponsor level at $50. All will receive recognition for their support in upcoming newsletters and Gold Level Sponsors will also get a special thank you gift. Hosts will offer to open their front porch or driveways to be one of the event locations. All Hosts will similarly be recognized. If you are interested in either, please contact Rob at 214-850-8792 or at rob@hamptonhills.org.

Finally, we will be taking orders for National Night Out T-Shirts through June 12th. Shirts are white and emblazoned with the National Night Out Logo and are only $6.99. Please contact Rob if you would like to order one and specify your size. They are the fashion statement... on August 7th at least.

May Yard of the Month

May Yard of the Month

Congratulations to Eric Tucker in the 1600 block of Hollywood Blvd. for winning the May Yard of the Month. He will be receiving a $50 gift certificate from Calloway's.

NSO Update

The City of Dallas Planning Department has approved our petition for a Neighborhood Stabilization Overlay. We have received all of the necessary documentation to be completed within the next 2-3 months.

At the June meeting we will establish the dates to begin taking surveys of the home setbacks and heights.

The approved areas for inclusion are:
  • East side of Hampton from Wright to Brandon.
  • Hollywood Avenue from Wright to Clarendon.
  • Montreal from Wright to Emmitt.

  • If we are able to successfully complete the NSO process for this area and obtain a full 75% of signatures, we can consider a second round to create an additional overlay for Oak Cliff Blvd.

A separate flyer will be coming out next month with more detailed information.
